MPEG-2 Codec
Pyro Kompressor HD’s included MPEG-2 encoder is a powerful, hardware
accelerated tool for converting video data into MPEG-2 format. It supports
almost all features of the approved MPEG standard. The encoder offers a simple
as well as an advanced interface. The latter enables experts to perfect both
their video and audio streams by adjusting a great number of settings and
parameters, including the bit-rate, in order to obtain high-quality results for
professional production environments. The default settings of the software offer
the novice excellent results. It also includes many ready-to-use presets for
common production environments, such as 720p, 1080i, ATSC etc. Audio
formats MPEG and LPCM audio are supported. The software is also shipped with
the MPEG Decoder, enabling playback of MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files in Windows
Media Player and other DirectShow compatible programs.

Configuration advice assuming HD professional and high-end prosumer usage:
RAM: 2GB for HD encoding. Most professional HD editing and compositing
software vendors recommend at least 4GB of system memory.
Processor: At least two cores recommended, four cores or better recommended
for HD encoding performance
Hard Disk: Uncompressed HD bandwidth varies by type, however approximately
200 MB/second is a generally accepted guideline, which requires a
hardware-accelerated RAID configuration. Ordinary disks will be a
performance bottleneck for uncompressed HD input, though they may be
adequate for transcoding from compressed input. The Installation manual has a
section on the bandwidth required for different HD input types. The utility
program that is installed at the same time as the accelerator card drivers has an
option for measuring your hard drives’ performance.
Graphics card and video ingest I/O card: We suggest you follow the latest
guidelines of mainstream professional editing software suppliers.
Adobe Software: Creative Suite version 3 is required for the included plug-in.
CS2 and prior versions are not supported.
